First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello, my name is Annika Catharina. I am a country singer-songwriter from British Columbia, Canada. I am from a small town just outside of Vancouver! I love singing with my band and writing songs about my experiences and feelings. I hope others can relate and feel connected to my music. I started releasing music as a solo artist in 2023, and I can’t wait to release more; I have lots coming out in 2024, so stay tuned!

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

While making “Broke It,” I drew from personal experience. I was thinking about my first love and how much I learned about myself, others, and trust. Most of all, I learned how hard getting over your first heartbreak is; some people can move on quickly, while others, like myself, may need time to heal. I wondered why moving on from that initial heartbreak was so hard. Being young and in love can be confusing, yet nothing prepares you for the break. I brought the chorus melody and hook to my producer and Parker Graye, and we worked through my past and all the memories that share a space in my mind from my first heartbreak. We wrote it, demoed it, and realized it was a song that many could relate to and produced the track just in time for summer for those who may need a mid-tempo ballad to connect to while heartbroken. The song did well and gained attention from Amazon Music’s curated playlists “Breakthrough Country” and “Just North of Nashville.”

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when you create music?

I pull inspiration mainly from things happening in my life, from working through my thoughts and feelings to hearing other people’s stories and connecting with them. I also get a lot of inspiration from other artists. Artists that I adore as songwriters and performers.

Do you have any upcoming shows to tell us about?

If you’re around the Fraser Valley area in BC, you can catch me playing somewhere each weekend. I update my website, annikacatharina.com, with upcoming shows and where you can find me. My hope is to start touring more cities throughout the Province and Country.

What’s your goal for the remainder of 2023 and into 2024?

My goal for 2023 is to finish the year by writing and recording more music I will release in 2024. My goal for 2024 is to release three singles—one at the end of January, another in March, and one in June. I plan to release an EP in the Fall. I have some songs that I’ve been saving for an EP. If all goes well, I will release sometime in September 2024.
