Chayce Kennedy releases new single, “Mr. Super Fine” (Interview)

Emerging Canadian Pop Artist Chayce Kennedy’s “Mr. Super Fine” Captures The Excitement, Innocence and Hopefulness of Young Love

Canadian pop artist Chayce Kennedy is excited to share her new single, “Mr. Super Fine”, which is available across all digital streaming platforms with an accompanying music video on YouTube.

Written by Chayce along with Juno Award-winning producer Ryan Stewart (Carly Rae Jepsen, Jocelyn Alice) and actor/songwriter Roark Critchlow (“Pretty Little Liars”, “Days of Our Lives”), “Mr. Super Fine” is the first single to drop from the artist’s debut EP, Yours Truly which will arrive in 2024.

An energetic, upbeat pop love song with dreamy, hopeful lyrics, “Mr. Super Fine” exudes the same bubbly happiness that strikes the heartstrings when the possibility of love is within one’s grasp.

Chayce says,

“This song is about the feelings that come out when you’re looking for your perfect someone. Through many dates, experiences, and new crushes in my teen years, there’s something innocent and exciting when you connect with someone who could be your person. I wanted to explore that spark that hits you when you don’t know exactly where things will go, but just the thought of being with them is magical enough for right now.”

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hey everyone! My name is Chayce Kennedy. I am a singer/songwriter/ performer from Penticton, BC.

I have been a music lover since I was a child. As soon as I saw Taylor Swift in concert during her 1989 tour, I wanted to be in the music industry. Just seeing her stage presence, how wild the crowd went whenever she interacted with them and was very special.

This summer, I performed tons, which was great! It was a very fun time being on stage multiple times a week and getting to meet so many great people!

I have also been working on a 5 song EP over the past 7 months with Brian West and Ryan Stewart. The EP – called “Yours Truly”  – is now complete and it will be released next spring!

My first single “Mr. Super Fine” from the EP is now out!

You have unveiled your single, “Mr. Super Fine.” Tell us a bit about the writing process behind the release.

I came up with the concept of the song sitting at my piano playing chords. I then started writing and wrote the whole song in an hour. It was a quick process.

From there, I tweaked the song with my mentor, Roark Critchlow. We tightened up some lyrics and did a bit of pre-production. Through that work, we decided this was one of the songs we wanted on the EP.

We took “Mr. Super Fine” into the studio and worked with the very talented Ryan Stewart.

We tweaked it a bit more by adding a bridge. Then we got down to work making a beat and landscaping the shape of the song. I did a couple of hours of vocals, and we were done. It was a very exciting, fun experience!

The single is from your upcoming EP, Yours Truly, which is set for release in 2024. Care to give us some insight on the creative process behind the EP?

Creating the EP was such an inspiring, exciting time!

It was quite hard deciding which 5 songs I wanted on the EP as I have written many songs over the years. Some of my most recent work is my best, so most of the songs on the EP were written a few weeks before we were at the studio!

I have worked with both Ryan Stewart and Brian West before and they are lovely to work with – not to mention, so talented – so I knew I wanted to work with them again for this EP.

You worked with Ryan Stewart on the release. How was that experience?

As always, Ryan Stewart was amazing to work with! He is such an amazing guy, writer, and producer and I always know I am going to be happy with the end product!

The environment in the studio is very comfortable, and inspiring – I never want to leave!

We work quite quickly together and he has a slick process. I am very proud of the songs we’ve done together!

What is your favourite thing about being a musician in Penticton, BC?

My town is very supportive of my passion, and I have got many opportunities from restaurants, wineries, and festivals, as well as people I meet at these venues for private events.

Penticton is a great little place to live in the summer as the weather is beautiful! I enjoy my days boating and hiking with my dogs when I’m not writing and performing.

It’s a great, chill little town.

You’ll be opening for The Good Lovelies on October 26th, how do you prepare for a show? Do you have any other shows to tell us about?

Yes! I am stoked for this opportunity and so incredibly grateful!

I prepare by organizing a setlist and then practicing tons!

I am also going to be selling merch at the show, so I am getting some designs together for some Chayce Kennedy merch which I am very excited about!

While I’m always performing around the Okanagan, this will be the main show for this single, but stay tuned for more release shows to go along with the rest of my new music!
