First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi Canadian Beats readers, my name is Alex Hughes and I’m a Country Music Artist from Calgary!

You have unveiled your single, “Until This Fire Dies.” Tell us a bit about the creative process behind the track.

“Until This Fire Dies” is finally here and I’m so excited! This has been a fan favourite at live shows for a couple of years now and I’m so happy to be able to finally share it with the world. I wrote this song with artist and songwriter Aaron Pollock. The song started with a loop of a guitar part that Aaron played which inspired the melody and sultry lyrics. I worked with Dan Swinimer on the production, he really helped turn this song into a red-hot, mid-tempo anthem. I love where “Until This Fire Dies” ended up and I hope the listeners do too!

You worked with Dan Swinimer on the release. How was that experience?

Dan is an incredibly gifted musician and producer! His ear for infectious production is undeniable. It was an honor to get to work with Dan and I can’t wait to work with him on more new music!

You wrote the track with Aaron Pollock, how did this writing collaboration come to be?

Aaron is one of my favourite co-writers to work with! He and I have been writing together for a long time. We both come from the Calgary music community, and I am always in awe of his abilities as a writer. He has a gift as a songwriter and I feel lucky to be able to work with him.

What’s your favourite thing about being a musician in Calgary?

Calgary has a wonderful and blossoming music community; especially in Country music, and I feel so incredibly lucky to be a part of it. There is so much support and a feeling of community to me – that type of support is priceless. We also have some incredible venues, like The King Eddy (as part of the National Music Centre) and The Prairie Emporium, that I am lucky to perform at regularly.

What else do you have up your sleeve in 2023?

More new music that’s for sure! Stay tuned to my social media for updates. Thanks so much for the interview Canadian Beats, and thank you readers for taking the time to learn a little more about me.
