Indie Pop Artist, Elias Cooper Unveils New Single, “Honey”

“I’ve never felt confident. Never.” So says Elias Cooper, following the debut of his latest release, Honey. “So this was my attempt to fake it.”

They’re surprising words for anyone who’s heard the song. “Honey” drips with sexual desire. The lyrics, delivered with a sultry, confident baritone, invite the listener into a bedroom scene rife with sensuality, moonlight, and the electrifying touch of a lover’s lips along the skin. Be it with a partner, lover, or a one-night stand, the rhythm is sure to toy with your passions, while the melodies echo in your ear.

Beginning with piano at age 4, Elias had an early start with music, like many musicians. But as his mother always said, “he would never practice, and then when he’d go to his lesson, he’d tell the instructor that he couldn’t remember the song. Then when the instructor played it for him, he’d ‘remember’ and play it right back.”

It was when he took up bass and guitar in his teenage years, however, that Elias truly found his passion.

He turned to songwriting, inspired by the songsmiths of earlier generations, including Townes Van Zandt, Tom Waits, and Nick Drake. But his influences didn’t stop there. Moving to Chicago, he built upon his singer-songwriter roots by diving into music production, fusing influences ranging from Nicolas Jaar to Chet Faker, Hot Chip to Radiohead, and TV on the Radio.

His first album, Radio.1, released under his then-moniker, Avram, carries this eclectic blend across each of its eight tracks.

Now, following an unfortunate burnout, Elias is back with his signature style to release “Honey,” a dark, yet danceable song rife with catchy melodies, infectious rhythms, and a theme many will recognize — sex.

“I wanted to feel sexy,” he says. “Sexy and cool in a way I never do. I think I nailed it.”

With a slew of singles planned for release over the next 12 months, his hope is to see that confidence flourish into the real deal.
