First off, care to introduce yourself?
Yeah, my name is Innes Wilson, I’m a singer-songwriter based in Guelph Ontario. I’ve been making music in the indie scene for many years performing solo and with various bands. My current band is Called “Innes Wilson’s Freightliner”, featuring R.P. McMurphy on guitar and Joshua Osmond on drums, we’re an Americana rock and roll band.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
Our newest release titled “II” is a five-song EP we recorded in our home studio. It’s a variety of American, rock and some phycdellic influences. Overall it’s a continuation of our first EP, that’s why is called “II”. The development of the band started by performing my back catalogue of songs, but “II” is where myself and the band wrote all new music together so these songs are fresh and new showing the direction we are headed as songwriters and collaborators.
You’re set to play Gussapolooza in Cookstown, Ontario through the weekend of September 15-17. Give us a hint of what attendees can expect from your performance.
Our set will get people up on their feet to our fun and energetic songs but will also have some slower and reflective moments. We want the audience to feel engaged with our songs so we are telling our stories and sharing some of our heartache but also celebrating success’. We are on stage to entertain and hope that our eclectic set will have a little of something for everyone and hopefully people walk away feeling they shared in our journey.
If you could recommend only one song of your songs for attendees to check out before the festival, which would you choose?
Our song “You’re a Saint” is one of our favourites It’s a great song with a great chorus, singing about those bad influences we all have if you’ve grown up in small-town Ontario.
With an amazing lineup, who are you excited to check out at the festival?
We are going to be there all weekend long, so we are hoping to check out everyone, we’ll definitely be checking out our pals Lindsay and the Lonelies. We have been listening to the Gussapolooza playlist on Spotify and there is a lot of talent going to be at the festival. We wanna see it all!
Let’s talk FOOD, what is one food or beverage that you have to ALWAYS have when you’re playing a festival?
We all love food very much. We love trying new things but also have our go-to fav’s. If there are Tacos we’ll go for those for sure!
Do you have any other shows or festivals coming up that you’d like to tell us about?
We’ll be back playing in Guelph on September 23 at Silence and on November 17 at the Red Chevron but the biggest news is our new single “County Fair Queen” will be releasing in October, so stay tuned for that!
