PEI’s Soul Filter unveiled their single, “Quicksand Town”

Summerside PEI’s Alt Rock Pop group Soul Filter released their latest single “Quicksand Town” on August 3, 2023. The self-produced release is a high-energy rock song about trying to escape the pressure of expectations; the ones we put on ourselves and the ones put on us by society.

Lead singer-songwriter Karen Penton shares,

“Ultimately, it’s a song about being stuck in fear. I have to be the one to pull myself up from the depths. To let go of other people’s judgments, opinions, and expectations and rise above them. Who created these standards anyway? We control what we can and ride the wave of what we can’t but keep going! I eventually come back to my mantra ‘Forget that shi*t’! Aging is a gift (I keep telling myself) and as long as I have a fire in my gut, I won’t give up. I want to empower others to do the same.”

Review

“Quicksand Town” is a brand new alt-rock/pop song from Soul Filter that explores the universal struggle to find one’s place and maintain a sense of self in an ever-demanding world.

The verses are rich with vivid imagery, allowing listeners to immerse themselves in the narrator’s struggles. Lines like “Running out of time, want to lay it on the line, but my jaded heart gets cold” convey the struggle between aspiration and insecurity.

The chorus, with its resolute determination to “run for higher ground,” stands as an inspiring call to embrace transformation and break free.

All in all, “Quicksand Town” is a track that deeply connects with listeners, encouraging introspection about their individual challenges and ambitions, all the while featuring an unyielding, melodious rhythm.
