Hey Major Release New Single “M.I.A” Ahead of Sophomore Album Down The Ride

Hey Major—multi-instrumentalist brothers Mickaël Fortin and Raphaël Fortin—release a driving new single “M.I.A (Missing In Action)” today, ahead of their sophomore album, Down The Ride, out September 22nd on Indica Records. “M.I.A” speaks on the challenges of unrequited love and the strain that it puts on a relationship.

“In an era where love can be forced and found everywhere, we’ve all experienced waiting for answers,” the duo says. “Missing in action after a night spent together. Missing in action after opening yourself to someone else. We all have limits to our patience and devotion.”

Guided by the bright side of life and the beauty that comes from pain, the ethos for Down The Ride was about discovering their true selves and accepting that it might change and evolve many times. It reveals the stories of two young artists: the discouragement, the highs, and the lows too. Love as a muse of its own. Recorded by their friend and producer Jace Lasek (The Besnard Lakes) along with writing partner Franz Schuller (Indica Records), Down The Ride is carried by the percussive rhythms of Raphaël, the saturated keyboards of Mickaël, and invigorated by the guitars and arrangements of Jace. Built on strong British rock influences, their unique sound is created by the explosive chemistry of the duo.

The previous single “You’re So Cold (I’m on fire)” is inspired by a complicated love, mirroring a controlling and heartbreaking relationship. It joins the lead single “Our World” which is a letter written to future generations, denouncing society’s mistakes in a request for forgiveness. As well, “Sun and the Moon” which is inspired by a fleeting love and its impending heartbreak.
