Pippa shares,
“The single is one that I think many can relate to. The heartbreaking reality of loving someone who for various reasons isn’t able to show up for you the way you desire. The first part of the single is the mistake many of us make where we turn ourselves into pretzels trying to have the love fully realized only to be disappointed repeatedly. By the end of the song there is hope and a shift to a realization that the power instead lies within and in choosing to prioritize and love ourselves. The art of surrender -letting go of control which is just an illusion anyway.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hey there! Let’s see where to start. I go by Pippa (Pippa is a British name) I have been called everything from Peppa (yes like the pig) to Popeye and Pepper. I was born in Vancouver, Canada but grew up in the United Kingdom. I attended a Hogwarts-type Boarding School while there. In my early 20s, I trained on Broadway at “Circle in the Square Theatre School” NYC, and after a decade working on the other side of the film industry in LA – I returned to my first love of singing by training with esteemed opera singer, Leah Field. These days I train and co-write with the renowned musician – Chersea. I wear my heart on my sleeve. In my opinion, there is no other way to live life!
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
“What If?” is a song that I think many can relate to. That feeling that you are never quite enough. You show up courageously with your heart on your sleeve and it’s the heartbreaking reality that sometimes you can feel like you are giving your all but the other person for various reasons still can’t meet you there. The focus towards the end of the track shifts to a need to be there for yourself and an acceptance that even if the other person can not get there in the end – you will be ok.
Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?
I primarily pull inspiration from my relationships and that includes my relationship to self. We all see the world through our own lens and trying to align that in a way that works with others too can be very challenging. Lots of movies/entertainment from a young age set us up with unrealistic expectations and challenging those notions through songs – I find to be very therapeutic. I used to listen to artists who were not afraid to be vulnerable. It helped me to feel less alone and I hope to do the same for others.
Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?
This year the focus is on writing with my co-writing partner (Chersea) and recording (Echoplant Studios). I am recording two covers soon with a live band (Bungalow) and then will record my third track soon.
Also have been working with an incredible creative team on some music videos. Lots of exciting stuff in the works!
What’s your goal for 2023?
To continue my personal growth both as an artist and human. I’m excited to finish my third track later this year and work towards an album.
I look forward to connecting more with the local music scene here in Vancouver – as prior to living here I was in California, New York, and the United Kingdom.
