TD Halifax Jazz Festival
Day 6: July 16, 2023
Featuring Fortunate Ones & Fleet Foxes
What a captivating finale to the 38th Annual TD Halifax Jazz Festival! The indie folk groups Fleet Foxes and Fortunate Ones graced the stage on Sunday night (July 16th), leaving the audience in awe. With a sold-out show and perfect weather, it was an unforgettable experience for all.
Opening the night was Fortunate Ones from St. John’s – a talented indie folk duo that captivated hearts with their pure vocal chemistry and heartfelt lyrics. The duo, consisting of Andrew James O’Brien and Catherine Allan, performed a set including “The Bliss,” “Hold Fast,” and “Steady As She Goes.”
Formed in Washington, the band Fleet Foxes is currently comprised of Robin Pecknold, Skyler Skjelset, Casey Wescott, Christian Wargo, and Morgan Henderson. Witnessing their first-ever performance in Nova Scotia was nothing short of a thrilling honour! The energy in the crowd was electric as they sang along to every word to songs such as “Ragged Wood,” “He Doesn’t Know Why,” and “Third of May/Ōdaigahara.” One lucky fan was even brought on stage to perform on the acoustic guitar for “White Winter Hymnal.”
The Jazz Festival truly outdid itself this year. Our city can’t help but feel grateful for festivals like these that continue to celebrate incredible talent and create memories for everyone in attendance!
