Andrew Matheson is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, composer, and educator based in Toronto, Ontario. A classically trained pianist and guitarist, he has worked with many artists in a variety of styles of music.Â
Andrew unveiled his eleven-song debut solo piano record, In Collective Solitude in April, and was written during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I wrote the record in the evenings of 2020 at the height of the pandemic. The title was inspired by a Globe and Mail article I read in late March 2020 describing how, while we were all in isolation, everyone was in it together so we weren’t entirely alone – although it didn’t always feel that way. The article resonated with me and felt deeply tied to the music I was writing at the time. Feelings of loneliness and longing are pervasive through the record, and with the quietness of the pandemic nights highlighted particularly in songs like “Resonance”.”
