The 2023 TD Halifax Jazz Festival started off with a bang on July 11th! The crowd eagerly gathered at the TD Main Stage along the Halifax Waterfront to enjoy remarkable performances by Feist and Jenn Grant. Despite a rainy day, music lovers were in for a treat as the rain stopped nearly just in time for the show.
Hailing from Halifax, folk-pop singer-songwriter Jenn Grant kicked off the night and really knew how to captivate an audience. With her soulful tunes and heartfelt lyrics, she took the audience on a whimsical musical journey that none of us wanted to end. Joined by the incredibly talented Kim Harris and Halifax’s very own Aquakulture (Lance Sampson), Grant performed her hits as well as songs from her newly released album Champagne Problems – including “Judy” and “How I Loved You.”
Feist, known for her indie-pop music and captivating stage presence, was up next and graced the crowd with her incredible talent. Born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, it felt like a big “Welcome Home” party. With each note sung, she effortlessly transported everyone into a world of pure musical bliss. From the first captivating note of “My Moon My Man” to the unforgettable finale of “Let It Die,” she took the audience on a mesmerizing journey. Other songs included “Any Party,” “Mushaboom,” and “Hiding Out In The Open.”
