Hamilton, ON’s Sumo Cyco consists of lead vocalist, Skye “Sever” Sweetnam, Matt “MD13” Drake, Oscar Anesetti, and Joey Muha.
Sumo Cyco’s latest album, Initiation was released in May 2021, and features singles, “Love You Wrong” and “Run with the Giants.”
The band is set to perform at Rock The Coliseum on August 5 at Celebration Square.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Heeeeeey it’s Skye Sweetnam here! Lead vocals in the four-piece Sumo Cyco!
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
INITIATION the Deluxe Album is our third full-length release. We had a ton of fun on this record release singles and music videos for songs “Bystander,” “No Surrender,” “Vertigo,” “Bad News,” “Sun Eater,” “Cyclone,” “Love You Wrong” & “Run with the Giants.” The response from fans was awesome and we were really happy to tour the record the last year and a half across North America.
You’re set to play Rock The Coliseum in Mississauga. Have you played this festival before?
The last time we played this festival was in 2020 when the festival went virtual due to the pandemic. As much as we enjoyed performing for you all through the power of technology, we’ll much prefer to rock it the old-fashioned way, in the flesh!
For someone who has yet to see you perform live, describe your performance in 5 words or less.
Hooks disguised as chaos!
With an incredible Canadian lineup, who are you hoping to check out during the fest?
Our friends in Softcult play right before us on Saturday and I have known Mercedes and Pheonix since they first started in Courage My Love. It’s so awesome to see them grow and succeed. I do hope I can check out all bands we’re sharing a stage with on Saturday!
What’s your favourite thing about being a musician in Ontario?
As touring musicians, we travel to make our living but I’ve always come back to Ontario because it’s home. I love retreating to my home studio for inspiration to write. There’s a great music community locally & it’s a pleasure to be a part of it.
Do you have any other festivals or shows to tell us about?
We’ll be playing Brantford at CrewFest on July 29th headlining side stage! Other bands include, LIVE, Our Lady Peace, The Headstones, and Bif Naked.
What’s up next for you in 2023?
We are busy in the studio writing like crazy. Times flies, and I can’t believe it’s been two years since our last release. We know the fans want more music so we got to deliver!
