Review
“Post Up” is a spirited and captivating funk-infused synth-pop track delving into the realms of self-assurance, allure, and the quest for a deeply gratifying connection.
The chorus conveys a strong sense of appreciation for their uniqueness and emphasizes that they may not even realize their own worth. The repeated line “We can go high, higher, in the sky” serves as an uplifting and memorable part of the track, symbolizing the limitless possibilities and the heights they can reach together. It does an excellent job of reminding us to let go of insecurities and wholeheartedly embrace life’s experiences and adventures.
The energetic production and catchy melodies make it an enjoyable and uplifting listening experience, sure to connect with much of the audience.
Overall, as a debut offering, this track undoubtedly piques curiosity about the future endeavors of this talented artist hailing from Nova Scotia.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Joe Hubley. 20 years old, from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Immaculate style.
You have unveiled your single, “Post Up.” Tell us a bit about the creative process behind the release.
Post Up was the beginning of a new creative era for me. This single was a product of truly embracing my ability and the unique sauce I brought to the table. After many many years of dissatisfaction with myself and the music I was creating, I had finally unlocked confidence in my expression, and the art started flowing out of my veins with the most ease I had ever experienced. With this in mind, it only felt right to release it as my debut. After spending time with the raw idea for a while, I conjured up an adequate demo, but I knew it was missing the beef it truly needed. I had the privilege of linking up with arc_ive and the team at Üthful Music in the North End of Halifax, and Post Up was officially cooked up.
What’s your favourite thing about being a musician in Halifax?
Halifax is a beautiful city full of diversity and character. The music scene continues to inspire me every day, and I couldn’t be more proud to represent just a small piece of the fruitful group of artists we have here on the east coast. Being able to build connections with the musicians around me is a blessing–one I don’t take for granted–and I’m gracious for the acceptance they’ve shown me as I begin to make my mark in the city.
You will be playing Halifax Jazz Festival on July 14, opening for BADBADNOTGOOD. What can someone who has yet to see live expect from your performance?
More soul than you can prepare for. I leave every ounce of energy on stage–Halifax Jazz Festival will be no exception. BADBADNOTGOOD has reached out to me asking me to take it easy when opening for them, as it’ll be too much to follow up. Holding back is unfortunately not in my vocabulary, I’m sure they’re shaking in their boots just reading this.
What’s up next for you in 2023?
2023 will see the release of my debut EP, set to drop at the end of the summer. I realize that is still a bit out of reach, so the public can rejoice at the sound of my next single “Pretend,” releasing on July 28th, 2023. Other than that, feel free to check out my website (joehubley.com) and keep up to date with my social media (@hubleyjoe) for all the latest news and updates on what’s coming next. This is just the beginning, I have more tricks up my sleeve than even I can believe sometimes.
