East Coast singer-songwriter and best-selling author, Tara MacLean is no stranger to the Canadian music scene, with six albums to her name.
Her latest album, Sparrow was released earlier this year, along with her debut memoir Song of the Sparrow.
Tara is set to play StanFest in Canso, NS on Friday, July 21, and I’m certain you do not want to miss it!

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Tara MacLean and I am a singer/songwriter and now a best-selling author! I am also the mother of three stunning girls!
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
My new album, Sparrow, is the soundtrack to the book I have just written. Seven songs are reimagined productions from other albums that were significant in my life in some way, and the other three songs are new ones that emerged as I was writing the book. Produced at Lake Echo by Daniel Ledwell.
You’re playing Stan Rogers Folk Festival this year. Is this your first time playing at the festival? If so, have you ever attended?
I played SRF way back with a band I was in called SHAYE. It was super fun and I met Bryan Adams and he is still a good friend! This is my first time playing solo!
With a stellar, hugely-Canadian lineup, who are you excited to check out at the festival?
I am excited to see Carleton Stone, Alan Doyle, Hello Darlins…actually pretty much everyone!
For someone who has yet to see you perform live, describe your performance in 3 words.
All the feels!
On Saturday, July 22, there will also be a tribute to Gordon Lightfoot, so I have to ask, what is your favourite Gordon Lightfoot song?
My favourite is “Song for a Winter’s Night.” I have recorded it! Watch here.
Do you have any other upcoming shows or festivals to tell us about?
I won’t be performing much this summer, but I have a HUGE and exciting show at the Confederation Centre of the Arts on October 7th, which will be a multimedia stage show based on my book, Song of the Sparrow, which is a memoir of my life in music.
