Montreal Jazz Festival
Day 5: July 2nd, 2023
with Vance Joy and Melody Gardot
Montreal Jazz Festival is still going, and the crowds aren’t getting any smaller!
We started our evening at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier with American singer Melody Gardot. For the first of two nights there, the venue was packed to the brim as the blonde stepped on stage in front of a full band and hiding behind her sunglasses. But no direct eye contact was needed for her to charm the audience, as she seduced everyone in the room the minute she started singing with her sultry voice. Just like during her Montreal Jazz Festival set in 2019, it was soft and jazzy, the perfect way to kick the evening off before heading into the main stage madness.
We then headed to the TD stage for the headliner of the night. Australian singer Vance Joy played a couple of sold-out nights at MTelus back in February, but that didn’t prevent crowds from coming in masses! Quite the contrary, as making one’s way around Ste Catherine’s street was quite the feat. With a stage setup and a setlist similar to his last visit, Vance and his band turned the massive stage into a cave-like intimate setting, with tens of thousands of people singing along to his hits like Mess Is Mine, Fire And The Floor, Georgia, and of course Riptide!
