Leith Ross celebrates community and love with a homecoming show at Ottawa’s Bronson Music Centre
Celebration in the experiences of love and loneliness was the overarching message of TikTok superstar, Leith Ross, homecoming show at Ottawa’s Bronson Music Centre on June 9.
Touring in support of their latest album, To Learn, the singer-songwriter took their diverse audience through a playlist that honoured queer experiences and the overarching heartache of love of all shapes and sizes. Songs like opening tracks “5 am” and “I Just Don’t Think You Like Me All That Much Anymore” gave the collective listening audience a warm sense of community in whatever loneliness they might be feeling; while their 2021 single, “Monogamy,” described the contemplation of falling frequently falling in love while wandering down Ottawa’s Bank St.
Community was beautifully celebrated, yet again, during a particularly memorable moment when, during a written question and answer segment, one keen audience member asked “How does it feel to have so many gay people here?”; and Ross, with all the warmth one could muster, proclaimed “It feels great!” to thunderous applause. Their viral TikTok single, “We’ll Never Have Sex”, closed out their set by reverberating through the crowd, just as it has over 40 million times on the video streaming app.
Opening for Ross was Cree singer-songwriter, FONTINE, who too celebrated the simple experiences of home and the love found within with songs like “This Mess” and “Yarrow Lover” from her latest EP, Yarrow Lover.
Leith Ross’ next stop will take her to New York City’s Central Park on July 1st, as they perform as part of Canada Day at SummerStage with Montreal’s Yves Jarvis and celebrated singer-songwriter, Andy Shauf.
