Western Canada’s The Bluesland Horn Band Release Their Album, SIX
Western Canada’s The Bluesland Horn Band is an eight-piece group in the classic tradition whose members have graced the stages of festivals and shows throughout North America. The band’s repertoire of originals and covers ranges through styles such as classic Memphis-style R&B, blues, and second-line New Orleans grooves with a touch of gospel and country swing.
Blues fans may remember the band that toured through Western Canada from 1998 to 2004, releasing one album called 1st Street. The band was reformed in 2013 and released an album called Down In New Orleans which landed in the top 10 most-played blues album on Canadian radio for 2014. The album Radio Waves was released in 2016 and went to number one on the Canadian Blues Radio Network. The band has two pay-per-view tv specials to their credit and their fourth album Let’s Go Dancing was that summer’s #1 album for Canadian radio play in the roots/folk/blues genre.
On June 16th, The Bluesland Horn Band will be releasing their sixth album, aptly titled SIX. Featuring ten original and refreshing compositions, SIX is a soulful and bluesy listening experience from start to finish.
SIX is an incredible release bursting with great lyrics, musicality, and vocals from this group of talented musicians dedicated to keeping blues music alive and well.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi folks, I’m Terry Medd, producer, writer, and guitarist with the eight-piece Bluesland Horn Band and we’ve just released our new album SIX.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
The new record was written and produced during our Covid break and is a continuation of the band’s exploration of all blues-based genres. The horns are fully integrated into our music and live shows. We salute and acknowledge the rich traditions of blues and jazz which were developed in the black communities of the south-eastern US. My first experiences with music started as a third generation family-band member playing old-timey music. Louis Armstrong was the first blues record we had in our home growing up and then the big bands and later the delta players via the British blues bands.
Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?
My inspiration for writing songs comes from my observations which were especially introspective given the isolation we all faced during Covid. Some of my best songs have come to me fully formed during that early morning, half-awake time after which I rush to capture the song before it escapes.
Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?
The Bluesland Horn Band will be launching the album SIX at our favourite blues club in Calgary, June 16&17 at the Blues Can.
What’s your goal for 2023?
Our goal for 2023 is to try and connect with as many music fans as possible who will appreciate our unique approach to horn-based blues.
