“Going Under With You” from Softlung’s debut album, Second Chances out now
Canadian indie act Softlung has released a self-directed music video for the single, “Going Under With You” from the May 10th debut album Second Chances.
The video was filmed in a Victorian-style home built at the turn of the 20th century in Saskatchewan. Originally built by a local merchant in a once-booming small town, the house was later sold off and passed down generations, before being transplanted to its current location.
The early era of the house inspired the story for the music video, in which the hard-working occupant comes home from a long day of work and spends a routine evening alone with their inner monologue, which echoes throughout the house via the song. The lyrics of the song confront the norms of toeing the line, living a safe and conventional life, and feeling pulled into a rut.
Softlung is fronted by Canadian artist S.J. Kardash, who calls Saskatoon, Saskatchewan home. In true DIY hands-on fashion, Kardash wrote, recorded, and played all of the instruments on the debut album.
“For me, the process is what I enjoy most,” says Kardash, “It’s rewarding to see the end result of anything, but getting lost in the creation itself is what actually drives me. That’s why I do this.”
