“First thing we’d climb a tree. And maybe then we’d talk. Or sit silently. And listen to our thoughts. With illusions of someday. Cast in a golden light. No dress rehearsal. This is our life.”

It’s incredibly hard not to be inspired by those nostalgic lyrics by arguably one of the greatest Canadian bands of all time, The Tragically Hip.

“The Hip” is as iconic and influential as it gets – so much so that Toronto, Ontario-born Jamie Dew, the founder, and Chief Creative Officer of Dewvre podcasts and such, is excited to announce the launch of a brand-new podcast called, “Getting Hip To The Hip.” This new creation will take listeners on a journey through the discography of the soulful, unique, and poetic Canadian rock band from the perspective of true music fans, Pete Marchica (Malaga, Spain) and Tim Lyden (Portland, Oregon). Interestingly, they have never heard of The Hip before but will be expertly guided throughout their extensive journey by tour guide and Tragically Hip aficionado, Jamie Dew. The podcast launched on May 19th, 2023, with new episodes being released every Monday.

“Getting Hip To The Hip is a thought experiment and a way for curious fans to dip their toes in the water of the Hip’s oeuvre,” says Jamie. “Listen in every Monday, beginning with the first episode on May 19th just in time for the Victoria Day Long Weekend to find out if our protagonists become fans of the band, and are able to feel their cultural significance, or if they will even like the music at all.”

This isn’t Jamie’s first dive into the world of creating engaging content about the iconic band from Kingston, Ontario – as he previously produced a show in 2018 called Fully & Completely, focusing on the greatness of The Tragically Hip. The show became a huge success, cracking the Top 10 on the Apple podcast charts, reaching over 150,000 downloads, and building a growing Facebook community of nearly 2,000 passionate Hip fans. Dew’s experience with this show allowed him to interview band members such as Robby Baker (guitar) and Paul Langlois (guitar), along with The Hip’s Manager, Jake Gold.

In addition to the exciting launch of “Getting Hip To The Hip,” there will be a live event to wrap up the podcast scheduled for Friday, September 1, 2023, at The Rec Room in downtown Toronto with all proceeds from the event donated to the Downie Wenjack Fund, in honour of the late Tragically Hip frontman Gord Downie. The event will feature comedian Pete Van Dyk as the MC, and special guests, 50 Mission, a fantastic and authentic-sounding Tragically Hip tribute band.

“We intend to make this event a huge success and draw fans from all over the Greater Toronto Area and beyond,” says Jamie. “With the help of media support, we’re convinced this show will be a hit.”
