Emerging Canadian Country Artist Jessica Sevier Releases New Single “Legends of the Summer”

Canadian country artist Jessica Sevier released her incredible new single “Legends of the Summer” on May 19th.

Produced by Matt Koebel and written by hit songwriters Emma Lee, Karen Kosowski, Jessica Cayne, and Maddie Walker, “Legends of the Summer” is a nostalgic country-rock tune, perfect for summer and reminiscing on the memories of past relationships.

“To me, this song recalls the memories of crazy teenage love and those summers you spent under the sun with no rules and no consequences,” said Jessica. “I think our first loves are always stuck in the back of our mind forever. We might look back and think of how legendary we felt in those times, being on top of the world in stupid mixed up teenage romance.”

Listen to “Legends of the Summer’ below and learn more about Jessica via our mini-interview.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

I’m a Toronto-born country artist who loves to combine elements of classic rock with county music. I pull inspiration from artists like John Mellencamp, Kelsea Ballerini, Bruce Springsteen, and Lainey Wilson. I try to bring something to my music that everyone can relate to no matter what age or gender. My band and I tour all across Ontario in the summer months and we put on a high-energy show, if anything I just mentioned appeals to readers, be sure to check us out!

You have just unveiled your single, “Legends of the Summer.” What can you tell us about the creative process behind the track?

When I first got pitched this song I fell in love with the nostalgic feeling of it. I brought the song to my producer and said “to me, this is a 70’s rock song, let’s make something great”. We referenced modern tracks like I Hope by Gabby Barrett and even added some Eagles-like guitar tracks. Once we started layering the song just fell into place. To me, this was one of the easiest songs to create as it is unapologetically me. It pulls inspiration from my own personal style and I hope listeners can hear that.

You worked with Matt Koebel on the release. How was that experience?

Matt is a good friend of mine who’s come on the road with me before so I knew we already worked well together. He listened to everything I wanted this song to be and he was able to capture it perfectly. Matt is an insanely talented musician and I don’t think anyone else could have done the song justice.

If you had to explain “Legends of the Summer” in 3 words, what would you choose?

nostalgic, heartbreaking, and real. Most people experience the legendary first love feeling and it always breaks your heart when it ends. You look back on those times as almost legendary and that is exactly what this song outlines.

What’s your favourite thing about being a country artist in Canada?

Definitely the community. The Canadian country music scene is such a close-knit group and they have all welcomed me with open arms. I have made my closest friends within this community and everyone is very supportive. As well, the fans of Canadian country music are insane. They are all die-hard fans and it is so amazing to see them come out to shows and sing along. The fans make it all worth it.
