Chris Picco, a native of St. John’s, Newfoundland, has unveiled his twelve-song album, Split Down The Middle.

Chris shares,

“I love playing and collaborating with a band but the timing was right to do a solo record. I’d like to think that this record captures me at my most confident as a songwriter, performer, and producer. Also, on this record, I challenged myself to play all instruments and stepped into the role of lead guitar player, something I have shied away from for years. With my co-producer/engineer KrisjanLeslie, we aimed to make the songs tight and catchy—and most importantly not boring.”

Ahead of the release, Picco unveiled singles, “Summer’s Here,” “Woman Understand,” “Time Changes Everything,” “Make It Up To You, and most recently, “Split Down The Middle.”

The album opener, “Woman Understand,” is a heartfelt ode to love and gratitude. Chris skillfully employs descriptive language, like the lines “I remember being tied onto a string, like a puppet I’d swing any way the wind would blow, And then you came ’round pulled my feet back to the ground,” to convey the influence his partner has had on him. Overall, this song is a beautiful tribute to love and the power of a strong, supportive relationship.

“Summer’s Here” was the first single from the album, and it’s clear to see why. With a mellow, yet catchy beat, the lyrics resonate with a deep sense of nostalgia, painting a vivid picture of the joy and longing of childhood, and the poignant reality of growing up. The chorus, with its repeated refrain of “Touch the sky and hit the ground,” perfectly captures the ups and downs of life, from the soaring highs to the crashing lows.

Overall, the album showcases exceptional songwriting and storytelling. Chris’s vocals seamlessly blend with the music, and he knows when to step forward and let his voice shine. I certainly can’t wait to hear more from Chris in the future.
