Laila Biali shares new single, “But Not For Me”

Laila Biali is back with one last teaser, “But Not For Me”

Award-winning vocalist, pianist, and arranger, Laila Biali, has been trickling out singles from her new album, Your Requests, most recently she unveiled one last teaser before the record drops on May 26th – her rendition of the Gershwin classic, “But Not For Me.”

Of the track, Laila says:

“But Not for Me wasn’t an after-thought, but it stayed on the backburner until I realized I couldn’t resist it any longer. We had already finalized our tracklist and recorded everything in the studio when my husband and I agreed it was worth adding ‘just one more track.’ Usually performed as a ballad or slow/medium swing tune, I had always envisioned But Not for Me as a samba, with lots of interplay between the voice and drums. The addition of Anat Cohen’s clarinet, recorded in New York City, and Maninho Costa’s percussion, tracked in Rio de Janeiro, add perfectly to the spirit of play and lilting grooves.”

About Your Requests: Set for release on May 26th, Your Requests is Laila’s first return to the Great American Songbook in more than ten years. Widely recognized for her original material, this shift back to the classic jazz repertoire was prompted by Laila’s delight in fulfilling the song requests by her fans. When she put out the call on social media asking her followers what tunes they’d like to hear her cover, more than 150 songs were submitted. The album debuts a collection of Laila’s dynamic and personal arrangements in response to her listeners, which she describes as a musical love letter to them.
