Indie Rootz Records is delighted to present the album release and live launch of The Dark Side of Venus – an exciting new take on Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon with an all-female vocal line-up. This modern rock remake of the legendary LP celebrates the 50th anniversary of the original release with a fresh new spin that tackles modern issues such as right to life, right to death, political corruption, and more.

The project was inspired by Indie Rootz Records‘ Brian Kotler, who recently lost his beloved sister Donna to Ovarian Cancer. He fondly remembers growing up in Cote St. Luc as a huge Floyd fan and always blasting The Dark Side of The Moon and making her learn to love it as well (!). The siblings attended the band’s last show in Montreal at the Big O in 1994 as their special brother-sister relationship literally “revolved around that moon.” As such, the album will be dedicated in Donna’s memory, and the album launch event will raise funds for the Ovarian Cancer Canada in the week of International Ovarian Cancer Day.

“This project represents many things to me. Most importantly closure for the passing of my little sister Donna from Ovarian Cancer. Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon was something that I leaned on all during my teenage years. Doing a cover of it has been on my bucket list from ever since I got in to music. As the old man at the end of the original album said ‘There is no dark side of the moon as a matter of fact, it’s all dark'”. Brian Kotler

The album and launch will feature the voices of 4 very talented women from 4 diverse musical genres. Featuring the Montreal-based trio of Bella Forte (R’n’B), NeeNee Knightly (Opera), & SLM (Hip-Hop), as well as Prestige (Reggae) from Woodstock, Ontario. Special guest artist Drew Edghill will be sure to shake things up while DJ Lady Savage keeps the beat. Rounding things off, musicologist Duke Eatmon (CBC Radio & TV) will perform MC duties.

100% of the proceeds from the event will go to Ovarian Cancer Canada in memory of Donna Kotler. Every year in Canada an estimated 3000 women get diagnosed and about 2000 die of Ovarian Cancer. May 8th is International Ovarian Cancer Day.

Distributed by Distrokid, The Dark Side of Venus will be available on all digital platforms on May 12, 2023.
