PEI-based singer-songwriter and performer Andrew Waite has been nominated for four East Coast Music Awards, including Album of the Year for his self-titled album, Song of the Year for “Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That,” Songwriter of the Year, and TD Fan’s Choice Video of the Year for Full Time, Tryin’ 2 Luv” (Director: Brendan Henry).

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
I’m Andrew Waite – I’m a songwriter, performer, and educator based out of Prince Edward Island, Canada. We’re currently coming off of a super busy year of traveling around the world performing and showcasing, and we are all set to head off to the East Coast Music Awards in Halifax next week!
Tell us a bit about your newest release.
This record was recorded in East Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia, with award-winning producer and all-around nice guy Chris Kirby. This record was a bit of a departure for me in that I didn’t really use any of my live band in the recording process, aside from my wife Nikki being featured on some tracks. The record has received a number of awards and nominations, and I’m super proud of what we put out!
You’re nominated for an East Coast Music Award this year. Is this your first time being nominated?
I’m super honoured to be nominated for three awards this year, including Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year! Last year the album was nominated for four East Coast Music Awards, and I was the recipient of the 2022 ECMA for Solo Recording of the Year.
Are you performing anywhere during the festivities from May 3-7? If so, where?
The band and I will be performing as a part of the ECMA’s Export Buyer’s Program on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm. (Marriott Hotel) We will also be playing that night at the Marquee at 11:20 pm. Very much looking forward to playing!
Are there any specific events through the weekend that you are excited to check out?
This is the first ECMAs that we’re taking our son, Jack to. He’ll be about 17 months when we’re there. Aside from meetings, performing, and the business parts of the conference, I am most looking forward to just hanging out with the little fella and taking him to see my buds play!
Who would you choose if you could work with any fellow East Coast artist?
This is a funny question. There are so many talented and fantastic artists on the east coast, and I’ve honestly been fortunate enough to work with so many artists that I would put down as my answer in a heartbeat. That said, I got together and wrote a song with Erin Costello last year, and it was super cool, as Erin is super cool…It’d be fun to work on something with her.
Do you have any upcoming shows besides the ECMAs to tell us about?
Very much looking forward to playing at Sommo Festival here in PEI this July. Unreal lineup, and thrilled to be a part of it.
What’s next for you in 2023?
I’m always writing and trying to push myself as a songwriter. Currently, I’m working on finishing a batch of songs for a new record. I can’t wait to get into the studio and get them laid down.
