Sofiane Pamart
St Jean-Baptiste Church, Montreal QC

This afternoon, we caught the first of two sold-out shows for French pianist Sofiane Pamart in Montreal!
St Jean-Baptiste church doesn’t serve often as a venue for concerts, and it very much should. In a solemn ambiance, about a thousand people found themselves a spot on the pews as the show was about to start. No opener needed for the virtuose, who sells out arenas in France, and sold out these Montreal shows in minutes.
Sofiane arrived on stage wearing his signature sunglasses and a bright Moschino shirt. Not the kind of outfit you’d normally see for a piano recital, but it somehow works, as his music might sound classical, but is deeply rooted in rap influences. For 75 minutes, the frenchman played his tunes with a lot of emotion, the grandiose background of the church making the experience even more so unique. A delight for the ears and the eyes, and a triumphant debut for Sofiane in Montreal!
Sofiane Pamart will be playing Sherbrooke’s Theatre Granada tomorrow, and Toronto’s Great Hall on Monday. For tickets and more info, visit his website.
