Welcome! Can you introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Josh, and I’m a pop singer, songwriter, and producer. I have been releasing music since 2016, and I am excited to be releasing my first full-length album this summer!
You have unveiled your single, “That Was Then, This Is Now,” featuring Olivia Penalva. What can you tell us about the creative process behind the release?
This song has been in the making for a couple of years. We wrote the song in the middle of the pandemic and recorded it remotely. Olivia actually recorded her vocals at home and sent me the files. I produced the song at my home studio, so we never actually met in person until two years later when we filmed the music video! That being said, the creative process felt so smooth, and the song turned out great, almost as if it wasn’t all done online
You co-wrote the track with Olivia Penalva and Andrew Allen. How was that experience?
I’d been writing with Andrew for a while when we wrote “That Was Then, This Is Now,” I’d heard of Olivia and her music through Andrew and loved her songs, so I suggested we all write something together. I remember the song came together pretty quickly, and we all loved it immediately.
If you were able to collaborate with any other fellow Canadian artist, who would you choose?
One of my dream collaborations would be with JP Saxe. I admire his writing so much, and I think it would be so cool to write a song with him.
What’s up next for you in 2023?
My first full-length album comes out this summer, and I’ll be in Toronto for a bit, playing some festivals including Canadian Music Week and NXNE! In the second half of 2023, I will return to the drawing board, with lots of writing and creativity, along with a few more single releases.
