Brooke MacArthur shares her latest single, “Nobody Knows”

Born and raised on the East Coast of Canada, country singer/songwriter Brooke Macarthur has started the new year on a high note by releasing a new single, “Nobody Knows,” and performing with the opening act for Brett Kissel in PEI.

From starting out singing at local talent shows at the age of 12 to recently performing at large events, including the Cavendish Beach Music Festival and Rock the Boat, Brooke has mastered the ability to captivate a crowd with her unique sound and strong stage presence.

Her love for songwriting started in her late teens, writing relatable lyrics that speak about the truths in relationships while being inspired by artists like Taylor Swift and Shania Twain. Brooke has collaborated with talented songwriters in Nashville and Calgary and has spent the last few years working with the talented CCMA and Juno award-winning producer, Jason Barry. With great momentum and more music on the way, Brooke is excited for all that 2023 has to bring.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Brooke MacArthur, and I’m a country singer/songwriter from a small town on Prince Edward Island. I’ve been performing and playing guitar since the age of 12, and I’ve always been inspired by powerful women in country music like Shania Twain and Faith Hill. In recent years, I’ve fallen in love with the process of songwriting and recording original music.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

I released a new single in January called “Nobody Knows,” written by myself and the talented singer/songwriter Mariya Stokes. We wrote this song over Zoom a few years ago, and we wanted to write a song with a storyline that listeners could visualize as they listened to the lyrics.

“Nobody Knows” demonstrates the feeling of guilt, knowing someone’s wrong for you but having a hard time letting them go. It’s an upbeat country/rock tune brought to life by the very talented CCMA award-winning producer Jason Barry. Jason was a pleasure to work with, and I look forward to working with him again later in the year. I’m super excited to play this new song live, and I’m so happy that people have been adding it to their playlists and singing along to the words!

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

I tend to pull inspiration from my own experiences with love and heartbreak, but I also like to find inspiration from female artists like Shania Twain and Taylor Swift, who aren’t afraid to write about the truths in relationships. I love getting in a creative mood, writing a song with a strong message, and seeing it all come together from start to finish! Ever since I’ve recently put my focus into songwriting, I analyze lyrics more than ever now, and I’m drawn to songs with strong storylines, not just for their catchy melodies. I’ve developed a greater appreciation for artists who can write their own music.

Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?

I’m performing at a few festivals this summer; however, the dates are not confirmed yet! I’ll post those details on my socials as soon as possible!

What’s your goal for 2023?

My goal for 2023 is to keep growing as a songwriter and performer. I plan to release another original song in April and perform my new music live this summer! I’m looking forward to collaborating with other artists and recording more music.
