Ontario country trio New Moon Junction is composed of members Barbara Doran, Brad Battle, and Tamara Maddalen. The three artists instantly hit it off from the beginning, sharing an unwavering desire to create music and moments together. Now the band has unveiled their single, “Mind Of Its Own.”
“Mind Of Its Own” showcases the trio’s beautiful three-part harmonies in a song about a continued longing for something or someone you know isn’t good for you.
New Moon Junction has had an amazing creative team of collaborators helping to bring their songs to life, including multi-Platinum award-winning producer Jeff Dalziel. The trio’s harmonic, distinct, and unforgettable voices can also be heard in their previous single releases, “Real Good Kinda Thing,” “The Other Side of Goodbye,” and “Don’t.”
New Moon Junction is a Country Music trio consisting of Barbara Doran, Tamara Maddalen, and Brad Battle. The group was formed at the end of 2019, right before a global pandemic.
At the beginning of 2019, I was looking to go in a new direction and sat with industry veteran Brian Hetherman and started to brainstorm. We came up with the idea of a “Lady A” type group that we felt the Canadian market was lacking. I started looking for members to join me and over the next several months, was lucky enough to find them. We spent the better part of 2020 writing music and working on our harmonies, even with the challenging times we were in. We still managed to launch our brand new group. We dropped our first single in February 2021 and since then have released four, soon to be five singles. From the start of the project, we have been lucky to have the amazing Jeff Dalziel producing us and playing an integral role in crafting our sound. Along the way, we have created an amazing team for ourselves and are extremely grateful to have them on board. I think it’s safe to say that we are all happy that we took a leap of faith putting our solo projects aside to focus on New Moon Junction.
I wish we could take credit for writing this tune, but it was written by some amazing writers in Nashville and was a song pitch we received from Demolition Publishing. The three of us instantly connected with the tune in our own way. It’s essentially about knowing something isn’t good for you but still wanting it anyway. It’s about letting your heart win the battle against your mind. We do a lot of writing as well, but this tune fell into our laps at the perfect time.
Being an independent artist is a big workload to handle on your own. Even with the three of us, it is still overwhelming at times. Having Tommy Lam and RÊVE MUSIC on our team now is exactly what we needed. We value his opinion, guidance, and the wealth of knowledge he has to share. He is well respected in the music industry, and we can’t wait to see what 2023 has in store for us.
What I’ve really grown to love about the music scene in Ontario is how we are a big family. I actually just commented about this at our show on the weekend. “How lucky we are to have this amazing community of artists and fans that show up for each other.” The country music scene is continuing to grow in Ontario and is home to some of the largest festivals and some of the biggest names in the industry. As a collective, we are releasing world-class music, and that is something we all should be proud of.
We are excited to release our new single, “Mind Of Its Own,” out to Canadian Country Radio on Monday, March 20th. We are also looking forward to a busy year of live shows, and we have some great ones already on our calendar. Our goal is to have another single and potentially an EP finished later this year. We only need one more song, which doesn’t sound like a lot, but sometimes it can take months for you to feel a song is worthy of being released. With it being our first EP as New Moon Junction, we want to put out the best songs we have available.
