Montreal-based blesse are sharing their new track, “creusercreuser,” a driving, synth-fuelled track featuring Montreal’s Sophia Bel. Made up of ex-members of Polaris Longlist nominees Zen Bamboo, the band is signed to Simone Records, and “creusercreuser” follows last year’s excellent “météore,” and comes ahead of a debut album that will be out in 2023, as well as headline shows in Quebec and appearances at Taverne Tour and Le Phoque OFF.
A fizzing track brimming with energy, blesse’s electrifying approach pairs perfectly with Sophia Bel’s vocals. On the track, the band explains
“”creusercreuser” is an energy bomb triggered by an extreme discomfort with accepting oneself and the world. Crossing genres through psychedelic, punk-rock, and hyper pop, it’s a high-speed journey towards the blooming of the mind and finding inner peace.”
The new alliance of ex-Zen Bamboo members Léo Leblanc, Charles-Antoine Olivier (aka CAO), and Xavier Touikan, blesse is a chemical reaction—an emancipation, a liberation—a creative impulse that seeks a new union. The trio crafts idiosyncratic, pluralistic, abrasive, and above all, catchy pop. Inspired in particular by Porches, My Bloody Valentine, and Indochine, their music is a hyper-pop/bedroom pop hybrid based on absolute mutual trust: Missteps are practically nonexistent, and forward momentum is irresistible. The group progresses towards its musical goals with every song, bouncing ideas surely amongst themselves, constantly renewing them. Their music sets out bravely, rarely returning to its starting point, conserving its adventurous energy, discovering new ideas, destination unknown. Their chief challenge is containing their great abundance of ideas.
