Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi, I’m Kendra Gabrielle. I’m a Country Artist from Milton, Ontario. I entered the country scene in 2020 – yes, during the pandemic and haven’t looked back since. Since then, I’ve been playing shows all over Ontario. I absolutely love playing live and sharing my music with a versatile list of covers at every venue I play. Last year I released my empowering self-love single, “Drunk On My Own,” that single was my first to get picked up by Sirius XM’s Country Channel. It also got me nominated for my first award at the Mississauga Music Awards for Best New Solo Artist, which was so cool. When I’m not making music, I’m either teaching music, hanging out with friends, or scrolling on TikTok.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
My last release, “RED,” came out on January 6th, 2023. Honestly, the story of red came from a joke I told my cowriter about how I’m constantly attracted to the red flags in men, and my friends would warn me to do better. I would always respond with a “Well, Red’s my favourite colour” and from there, we wrote the song. I think everyone goes through this in their life, going after the person who is no good for them because they’re attractive, so we wanted the song to be playful and catchy. I’m so happy and proud of our little tune, and I’ve received so much positive feedback from my listeners, which makes this all more special.
Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?
I tend to pull inspiration from my personal and friends’ lives, I find it’s easier to write about things when you’ve lived them. But there are also times I will pull from TV characters and movies. My goal is always to write a song that can be felt by other people, I think we all have similar experiences, especially when it comes to growing up and learning about ourselves. It’s always nice to have a song you can relate to when you’re not ready to talk about it.
Do you have any upcoming shows you want to tell us about?
Yes! I’m playing a showcase by Am to Fm on Feb 23rd, The Moonshine Cafe on March 29th, and Cest What in Toronto on April 1st. You can get all the details on my website or my social media.
What’s your goal for 2023?
Just to have a lot of fun doing what I love. I have a feeling this year, I’ll be playing more shows than I ever have before and will continue to grow my audience.
