Selfish Bodies recently released their single, “Bambi Legs”

Selfish Bodies, a female lead Alternative Pop Rock trio based in Edmonton, AB, combines their love for writing with genre-blending, cinematic soundscapes and thoughtful lyrics.

The band has recently unveiled their latest single, “Bambi Legs,” which follows their previous single, “Waitress,” from April 2020.

“Bambi Legs” is a melancholic track that was inspired by the feeling of insecurity. When self-consciousness rears its ugly head, it can lead to a lot of fear and second-guessing. This is a lonely feeling yet we are oddly united in it as we all feel this way, at least sometimes.

The duality of the feelings in the lyrics through the instrumentation is magnified as the song sways back and forth between a heaviness to a more lightheartedness.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Selfish Bodies is a female lead Alternative Pop Rock trio based in Edmonton, AB. The band combines their love for writing with genre-blending, cinematic soundscapes and thoughtful lyrics. The group formed in February 2018 and released their latest single, “Bambi Legs,” in October 2022.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

“Bambi Legs” was inspired by insecurity and fear, two big bad feelings we often deal with. Lead vocalist Brandy has the strange sensation that she sometimes walks funny when she’s strolling alone; this is a milder and sillier version of self-consciousness and that lends to the idea that most things we’re afraid of are all in our heads.

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

One of the biggest inspirations when writing is our feelings. Mostly hurt feelings, and we can’t afford a therapist, so into the songs they go. Even more inspiring than that, though, are the people around us, whether they be family, friends, strangers, or fellow musicians.

Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?

We have a show coming up on February 22nd that we’re really looking forward to. We’ll be playing at The Naked Cyber Cafe in Edmonton, AB. The most fantastic thing about this show is our friends from Regina, Saskatchewan, will be playing with us that night. They’re called Cupid’s Heart, and we met them a while back at a queer-themed show hosted by The Speakeasy. They are an amazing duo, and we can’t wait to hear them rock out again!

What’s your goal for 2023?

2023 is gonna be our year, baby! We have at least four more songs to drop, the first of which is called “Hideous,” with a release date of January 13th (Happy Friday the 13th!). We’re also stepping back into the studio in January. So you could definitely say that our goal is to continue creating and pumping out tunes that will hopefully reach and connect with more people.
