Dylan Jules Cooper is back with Rockulism
Saskatoon, SK-based multi-talented showman Dylan Jules Cooper unveiled his newest album entitled Rockulism, which was released in late 2022.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Dylan Jules Cooper, and I’m a multi-talented showman from Saskatoon, SK. My music consists of classic rock screams and soulful crooning while maintaining humility in the lyrics akin to Daniel Johnston at times. My ambitious release of music has set the stage for a performance of variety, from blazing rage-fueled punk to bedroom pop to falsetto soul. My performances are personal expressions. The shared feeling in the room during each performance is one in which we laugh at the absurdity of it all.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
Rockulism was written and recorded in the Fall of 2019…the obvious happened in the winter of 2020 when it was set to be released with a following western Canada spring tour. So I’ve been sitting on it now for a while, waiting for the perfect time to reveal it finally, and well, I just turned 30, so the release party was my birthday. New year, new music, new me.
The content of the album itself is a reflection of a pretty tumultuous year, emotionally speaking. Lots of moving away from bad landlords, bad love, and a toxic desire to busy myself to death. It’s a cathartic listen now.

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?
These days, I try to squeeze meaning out of the ordinary. When I was young, I wrote about what we hear in music, trying to find our own way of expressing it. Now, I find there is a lot of value in every day because the boredom and monotony of regular life is actually us expressing our baseline meaning, what is valuable, or what is it I notice that makes an imprint on my mind. So I write about childhood events, odd things we tend to say, and ideas and phrases my friends express. All of which I embellished with a sprinkle of hack poetry.
Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?
Currently, the schedule is open, apart from a show in a small town in Northern Saskatchewan (Prince Albert, SK, with Cupid’s Heart and The Great Fuss). The ambition is growing in the band to get out into western and eastern Canada, but since we’ve all been doing this for a while, touring in the Winter in Canada is not our favourite thing to do.
What’s your goal for 2023?
My goal is to write more lyrics, make more songs, make better recordings, make great videos, and strike a careful balance between busy and slow.
