LESS KILLJOY shares her single, “SAD GIRL SUBURBIA”
Emerging Toronto, ON-based sensation LESS KILLJOY is back with her new single “SAD GIRL SUBURBIA.”
“SAD GIRL SUBURBIA” comes tearing out of the speakers with a bratty boisterous vocal energy, grunge guitars, and in-your-face drums.
“I wrote “SAD GIRL SUBURBIA” about feeling trapped in my surroundings. I grew up in a place where I was an outcast. That feeling follows me everywhere but recently I’m realizing that feeling that way is of my own volition. It’s my choice to let people into my head. Writing the Pink Grenade EP, which comes out December 2nd (F*CK YA), was a real life lesson and taught me that not only am I allowed to be the person I wanna be, but it was wrong for people to expect me to tolerate them and the boundaries they set for me. Music has always been a method of healing and self preservation.”
LESS KILLJOY explains the Sad Girl Suburbia lyrics “Wannabe rappers in daddy’s baggy clothes” as making fun of her own willingness and effort to fit in.
“People made growing up harder than it needed to be. I realized that it was everyone else’s insecurities, fears, and shortcomings that they were projecting on me. I’m done explaining myself to people who don’t want to understand me. The right people are in my life, and the toxic ones that did nothing but cause me pain are long gone. Good riddance.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Yo! I’m LESS KILLJOY. I’m an Alt/Pop artist from Toronto! My music is influenced by many genres, and I write from a place of personal experience. One thing I can promise you in my music is that you can expect total honesty!
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
It’s definitely angsty, raw, and honest. “Sad Girl Suburbia” was one of my favorite songs to track in the studio because it was cathartic to get those thoughts and feelings of rage out of me. It’s about me feeling trapped in my environment and feeling judged and stifled by the expectations put on me by society. I’ve never felt like I fit in growing up in the suburbs, never truly accepted as who I was. I always felt like people wanted me to fit the mould, and I constantly pushed back, and I still do. I know there are people out there like me who want to forge their own path and go against what people expect of them, live their lives for them the way they want, and be exactly who they are!
Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?
Real life experience, but I’m also influenced by the bands and artists I listen to. Good music inspires me to make my own music and continues to push me to make the best possible songs I can. I always aim to write from a place of honesty one way or another. For me, it’s like my personal journal that comes to life.
Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?
I don’t at the moment! stay tuned!
What’s your goal for the remainder of 2022 and into 2023?
My EP came out on DECEMBER 2, 2022! It’s called Pink Grenade, and I’m incredibly proud of this body of work!
