Vogue Villains unveil their single, “Wrong Side of Midnight”

If you don’t know Vogue Villains yet, their brand new single is a killer introduction to the Vancouver Island-based band. “Wrong Side of Midnight” is an alluring alt-rock track with driving guitar riffs and a lot of swagger – perfect for fans of Queens of the Stone Age and Royal Blood.

Midnight actually began as a joke, a simple folk jam with silly lyrics that we used as an injection of silliness into a hard rock set but it always went over so well that we decided to morph the song into a more intentional rock song to be a banger for the new record. So while the music changed dramatically, the cheeky attitude remained and it quickly became one of our most popular live songs and the crowds sing along!

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

VV is an emerging alt-rock band out of Vancouver Island, BC. We’re a group that loves rattling the house with bass just as much as making you dance with punchy hard, hitting drums. We are all about harmonies, hooks, and catchy melodies, but we never shy away from twisting and changing time signatures, synthy explosions, ripping solos, or a good old-fashioned scream.

We write music that makes us feel good and sometimes sad, but always proud. We write for ourselves, but we live for the crowd. We don’t just play songs on a stage, we rock, we laugh, we cry, and we laugh some more but ultimately, we give you a goddamn show!

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

On the surface, “Wrong Side of Midnight” is a song from the perspective of a vampire that cares more about how they look than they do about drinking the blood of the innocent, but underneath the dirty rock exterior and massive energy is an anthem about knowing exactly who you are and feeling more than comfortable in whatever supernatural skin you’re in, a song about busting through the constraints of who you’re told to be, all while flipping off anyone who has something to say about it.

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

We draw from a pretty wide range of influences. The most important thing for us is to give each other the freedom to explore. If someone has an idea they are sure about, we go in as a team and let that idea develop as far as we can, no matter how ridiculous or difficult it may be. and if that means visiting another genre, then so be it!

Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?

On January 27th, we’ll be playing our first close-to-home show in three years, which is a huge deal for us, having to travel at least an hour and a half for every show! It’s in a neighboring town called Cumberland at The Waverley Hotel. We’ll be rockin’ with two other bands, Chase The Bear & The Velvet Grip. Everyone’s gonna be there, and we’re going to blow it out!

What’s your goal for the remainder of 2022 and into 2023?

Our goal for the end of 2022 and 2023 is to periodically release our new music and use those releases as fuel to get ourselves in front of new audiences. We made great connections with fans in 2022, so we intend to pull as many people into our circle as we can while we prepare to release our album.
