Born Divided – Five Questions With

Born Divided

Quebec’s Born Divided recently unveiled their album Impending Doom

Quebec City’s melodic death metal act Born Divided comes from the remains of Blinded By Faith when bassist Tommy Demers decided to pick up the bass instead of staying solely on vocal duties. He brought in guitarist Michael Beaudoin, also from Blinded By Faith; guitarist Fred Bedard; drummer Lucas Biron; and Maxim Levesque on vocals. Together they brought forth a debut album, Impending Doom. The single “Human Masquerade” is their first single and music video that will let the world hear and see what Born Divided is all about. The song represents them well with its aggressiveness, the rhythmical intro, the harmonies, its epic side, and the incredible vocal melodies that bomb into brutal screams.

They share on the album,

“We are very proud to show our first album Impending Doom. A lot of work went into this. We really wanted to incorporate our musical influences into this. We wanted every riff and beat to have its own colour. We like to go from prog to death, brutal to melodic. We like to surprise the listener with some radical changes in terms of sub-genre while keeping the listening experience as entertaining as possible.”

With Impending Doom, Born Divided delivers an experience that feels new and unique. An experience that doesn’t feel like something you’ve heard before. They kind of just came to be, Demers had written some of these songs around 2015 and brought those forward for the album. Fans can expect a second album coming at a much quicker pace as they have already started the writing process of the next one.

Within Impending Doom, listeners can expect some clean singing along with some deadly growls, riffs that rip, and amazing and tasteful drumming that breathes music. It is recommended for fans of Dimmu Borgir, Symphony X, and Opeth.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

We are a melodic Death Metal band that tries to touch as much metal style as possible in each of the songs. Our band is formed of members of Blinded By Faith, Kalter, and Moonlyght.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

Impending Doom is the first album worked on over several years. The album is composed of 7 tracks and has a duration of 44 minutes. We recorded in our guitarist, Fred, studio, and he also did the mixing and mastering. Our singer, Maxim, brought a lot to the vocal level with his clean vocals and his growls. It’s his first ever band, and we are very happy to count him among our ranks as a frontman since he’s a very versatile singer!

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

The inspiration for Born Divided compositions comes from all the metal we’ve listened to since childhood: Iron Maiden, Cannibal Corpse, Cradle Of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Opeth, Symphony X, and many others. Myself (Tommy) and Michael are the main composers for this album, and they have been working since the end of the Blinded By Faith years to make the most of the composition and the experiences they have acquired with all these years in different groups. The band’s lyrics stay away from politics but still take an open and critical look at many illogical situations in this world. We also talk about the harmful effects of addiction, the need to be together and united, and the division between humans on all points. In Born Divided, it’s all about bringing people together, as you can notice in many endings of our songs that finish in a resolution (major) sound.

Do you have any upcoming shows or festivals you’d like to tell us about?

We have so far only done one show one month ago, but we intend to do as much as possible in the province of Quebec to start and try to open up the international market as much as possible to us. The next show is scheduled for December 10 in Quebec at the source of La Martinière with Nordheim, Upon Your Grave, and Eternal Closure!

What’s your goal for the remainder of 2022?

Our goal for 2022 is to start talking about our band as much as possible and to introduce our music to as many people as possible. We are already writing the next album so that we can bring more songs to Born Divided fans. Stay tuned !!!
