Take a few minutes out of your Monday to find out Zach’s Picks of the Week
Happy Halloween to all goblins and ghouls. Welcome to Zach’s Picks Of The Week! I hope you’re here for some tricks or treats today. I won’t be tricking you when I tell you I’ve got some new music for you to enjoy. Plus, there will be a treat when you can preview each of my choices this week in the video below.
Five
Starting this week‘s list of new music will be pioneers in the music world who introduced their unique blend of music that Bara Jonson and Free have called “Crockpop.” Fusing country, rock, and pop music, this dynamic duo delivers a listening experience unlike any other in their newest single, “The Sky Is The Limit.” it’s available now on all streaming platforms, so be sure to go add it to yours. The single is from their newest album, BjF – New Era, and they have been hard at work touring and promoting it. But this new single is a well-executed fusion of everything this band is passionate about, featuring an uplifting message of “making it or faking it” while “shaking off people who get in our way.” Please do yourself a favour and check out more about Bara Jonson and Free in our article, where we feature their new single here.

Moving into our next article and recommendation from Guelph-based country artist Ian James Bain, who’s unveiled his new album Where I Wanna Be, which includes his previous singles, “Something To Do” and “Road Song.” The whole album showcases Ian‘s ability to be a storyteller and leave his listeners as if they’ve lived a memory in his song. All ten tracks of this incredible album are available on all your favourite streaming platforms now. You can enjoy our album review for the latest release from Ian James Bain. Read it here.
Three
Next up, Gatineau-based band, Subsun released their debut album, Parasite, back in July. It features their two most recent singles, “Adaptation” and ”Proliferation.” They have said their album draws inspiration from the eclectic blend of metal music, biology, and 80s sci-fi movies. Not sure which ones, but I am interested in the sounds of this album. They released the official music video just last month for “Adaptation, “ and it was filmed and edited by Francis Martineau. He filmed the entire thing on a DV camcorder (old-school 2000s camera) and manually added all the visual effects. You can enjoy this new album and the video when you check out our Five Questions With segment featuring Subsun here.
Two
We’re making our way into this week’s top two picks of the week. This band was formed just last year in July and has celebrated its one year with their album Grand. From Plattsville, Ontario, it’s alt-country/folk group Eric Jackson & The Willow River Band. They have unveiled their latest single, “Two Churches And A Bar,” which follows previous singles, “Birds of Prey” and “Another Lie.” You’ll enjoy all of those songs off the album when you search it on your favourite streaming platforms and listen to it. But this new single is about Eric’s hometown of Plattsville, Ontario. Showing what it’s like to live in a small town community, the problems, and the blessings you find. You can find out more if you check out the single review for “Two Churches And A Bar” and read the mini-interview we had with Eric Jackson. Check them out here.

Now for my final spot on our fantastic list of new music this week. That will take us directly to Montreal-based artist Steph Morin. He has unveiled his latest single, “Older,” to your favourite streaming sites. This single is a mature and nostalgic tune that de-dramatizes the fact of aging as Steph gets closer to 40 years old, showing more gray in his beard. He states age is an enriching experience as he writes the lines from his song. “They say they measure a man by the lines on his face.” Be sure to go and enjoy the single review we have on our website here for the latest from Steph Morin. You can find the link to this article here.
Those are going to be all of your treats for this Halloween. Unless you decide to get some candy, you can rot your teeth with the sugar while also listening to the best Canadian music that was picked by yours truly. So thank you very much for joining us again for “Zach’s Picks Of The Week.” I hope you’ll tune in next time we have a new list. So until next time, I hope you have a great rest of your week. Stay safe out there this Halloween. But as always, this has been your host Zach Coopz and till next Music Monday, it’s PEACE, LOVE, AND GOOD MUSIC, EVERYONE!
