Puff Piece is the debut release from Montreal-based artist Ev Bird, which is out now via Royal Mountain Records.
Upon listening to this release, I was intrigued by the influence of artists musically like Tame Impala while bringing something new to the table. Lyrically, the album details the toll of touring as a musician having the strength and mental feelings that they are faced with on a regular basis. Subjects being represented in the release include being around the right people, having feelings of being isolated, and living on autopilot.
“The Ring” is an acoustic, hip-hop-influenced joint about hustle culture and the mental toll it takes on someone as they are all work and no play.
The closing track, “Walnut,” is a mid-tempo dreamy guitar ditty that asks the listener, should I give up this path in my career that I made for myself and go for a steady but dead-end job or continue what I originally set out to do?
Overall, this is a record meant to give you the inspiration to find out what you want in life. Are you happy in your current position? or is there some other level you want to strive for?
