Zach's Picks 3

Sit back, relax, and enjoy Zach’s Picks of the Week

Well, how are you doing today? I’d like to welcome you back to Canadian Beats for the best in Canadian music this week. These are going to be my five hand-picked articles, which I believe you are going to love and listen to. This is Zach’s Picks Of The Week, our weekly segment where I get to show off what I’ve been listening to. Of course, there’s also a mountain of new music on our website. However, you can visit each of my recommendations through the link in this article, and you can enjoy just a clip from each of the songs featured in this week’s video below. So what do you say we get into the fantastic music featured on this beautiful Music Monday?

Five

We’ll begin this week’s list with the Toronto-based singer-songwriter, Harley Olivia. She’s back with her fourth single of 2022, entitled “Cherries.” It’s now available on all music platforms, as is her previous single, “No More Tears.” Her brand of alt-pop caught the attention of many, including ours. As the song plays, you can hear her speak about getting older but regretting how we got where we are on our journey in life. Did I also mention that there’s a brand-new video included with the release of this song? Check out our single review here.

Four

Moving on to our next recommendation, we’re heading to Toronto again. Singer-Songwriter Peter Foldy has unveiled his song that reminds us that sometimes the worst and best part of a breakup can be that “highlight reel” playing over and over in your mind as you remember the good times. The new single is called “Fun, Fun, Fun,” and it is available now on all streaming platforms. A bit of a sad song but with an uplifting beat and feel to it, so I hope you enjoy it. You can check out the new single “Fun, Fun, Fun,” plus a quick interview with Peter Foldy here.

Three

Making our way into the top three in this week’s list is the JUNO Award-nominated jazz singer and songwriter Alex Bird. He has a gift for all Canadians in the form of his Thanksgiving-themed single, “The Sweetest Moments.” This track captures the fall, Thanksgiving feeling, where the air is crisp, and you can almost hear the laughter have your loved ones around the table. Bird’s quest to write and produce was supported by “Think Turkey.” The marketing arm for Turkey Farmers of Canada. Remember to add it to your music playlist for the big day. Be sure to visit the article where we showcased “The Sweetest Moments” by Alex Bird here.

Two

Now, on to my number two pick, which is the London-based band Lost in Japan. They have unveiled the first part of their sophomore LP, titled Night Talks, Pt. 1. It was produced by Grammy Award winner Matt Snell and JUNO Award winner Dan Brodbeck. Part 1 of this LP feels like you’re listening to a friend talk about their day or week. The members of the band found themselves inspired by raw/cathartic slice-of-life conversations and experiences. We’ve all got battles going on inside our heads. It’s not just you. Be sure to go learn more about Lost In Japan in our Five Questions With segment here.

One

The final article we are going to be covering here on Zach’s Picks Of The Week brings us to a unique artist. Singer/songwriter Mark Oproiu and his mononymous named band released their debut single “Need Your Love” back in July. It’s available on streaming platforms and is featured on his EP, titled Rock Lives. The band perfectly emulates the raw emotion and drive Mark dreamed of as a child. Mark discovered his calling after he received Queen‘s album, The Works, and KISS’ Creatures Of The Night for his eighth birthday. Setting him on the path to creating the incredible music he has released and is soon to be released. Go check out the debut single on Canadian Beats here.
