Harley Olivia is back with her single, “Cherries”
Toronto, ON-based singer-songwriter, Harley Olivia has unveiled her fourth single of 2022, entitled “Cherries.”
Harley shares,
“The song is in reference to my favourite Toronto bar Cherry Colas, which sadly closed down. The music video is comedic and features lots of fun pictures and memories over the years from Cherry Colas, Bovine Sex Club, The Horseshoe, Hardluck, and Global Village Backpackers Hostel which also shut down. “
Review
Back in August, I was introduced to Harley Olivia through her single, “No More Tears,” and I quickly became a fan. Harley’s brand of alt-pop caught my attention, and I was anxiously awaiting another release.
On September 23, Harley Olivia unveiled her brand new single, “Cherries,” along with a music video to accompany the release.
From the beginning of the track, it was clear she had done it again. With a powerful rocking beat and her no-nonsense vocals, it’s a track that will seem familiar to many who basically lived in the music scene through their teens, at one venue or another.
Lyrics, “I don’t remember my 20’s, But I heard they were great, Never went to work on time, Too busy staying out late, I spent all my time at “Cherries,” Pretending I was okay…” speaks to her time at Cherry Colas in Toronto. I’m certain many who grew up there felt exactly the same.
As the song plays on, she speaks of getting older but not regretting how we got where we are. “But you know, I can’t go, I can’t party, Like we used to do it anymore, But I still wanna get high with you. Can I still come and get high with you?” and “I won’t let myself waste any more years. I know I cannot take it anymore…” evokes a sense of sadness but also a sense of longing to be out once again like she used to.
