Montreal Jazz Festival
Day 6: July 5th, 2022
with Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, MonoNeon
Rain or shine, the Montreal Jazz Festival is still going! We grabbed our raincoats and umbrellas yesterday and headed to the Rio Tinto stage to catch American bassist MonoNeon. His set was clearly very anticipated, given the size of the crowd that braved the rain to see him! Adorning an oversized hat made of crochet flowers, Dywane Thomas Jr and his band put on an equally colorful show. MonoNeon was the last bassist Prince collaborated with before passing away, which is no surprise given the immense talent he showcased on stage!
Next, we dodged more raindrops to head to the TD Stage for the main free show of the night: Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats. In front of a rather large crowd (given the weather!), the Denver band gave a true americana rock performance. Rateliff might be more reserved and less of a showman than Lee Fields the night prior, but he let his voice shine instead and put on a great set regardless! The perfect soundtrack for a rainy Tuesday night.
