Ontario-based band, Long Range Hustle deals with the heavy subject of grief in their brand new single, “Half Speed”. The band tackles and combats it with intimate acoustic guitar, matched with emerging layers of strings and synthesizers, and takes you away on a summertime sing-along refrain a la Sufjan Stevens.
“Half Speed is a song about the banality of grief. So often in popular media, grief and loss are portrayed in vivid cinematography with IMAX scope,” says the band. “But the day-to-day reality of losing those closest to you is that it is filled with repetitive paperwork, sorting through mail, and cleaning out refrigerators. I felt like there needed to be a more honest song about mourning in the world. And while grief is painful it is something worth relishing, for the greater tragedy would be to feel nothing at all.”
The single will appear on the band’s upcoming album, I am alive, but only if you say I am, which is due out February 25, 2022, and produced by Tony Doogan.
