This year has had its share of challenges for Töme, for instance, getting diagnosed with COVID-19, but there were also some milestones, like receiving her first JUNO nomination, and releasing her new single, “Nana”.
“Just short of 2 years of my professional career and I’m nominated for a JUNO! It’s absolutely amazing given the year myself and my team had and I’m thankful to everyone around me that helped me get here. It’s a privilege and I’m grateful”
The first song from a forthcoming project, “Nana” signals Töme operating in a pocket of sound that’s fundamentally attuned to her unique strengths. She makes a tribute to her individualism over an ebbing instrumental, packing in lyrical choices that urge her to move on despite what might be happening in her life at the moment.
Still flying the flag of Nigeria while interrogating her place in the world as a French-Canadian, Töme’s latest song, “Nana,” blends afrobeats’ tonality with the poignant lyricism of the indie-folk music of her childhood, creating an eclectic brand of music that’s at once roomy and relatable.
“I think it’s safe to say that when it comes to boys/men and relationships…you need to make sure you know what YOU want and if they don’t like it, well…you can’t hear’ em” .

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Töme ya homie ya diggg, I’m an afro-fusion artist changing the meaning of “genre” when it comes to music.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
My music is a true fusion blend. You never really know what to expect but somehow, it always sounds great and only something Tome can achieve. My writing style is usually based on the beat I hear, once I’m feeling the groove, I freestyle the melodies, find my pockets and start writing
How have you been keeping creative during the Pandemic?
Well, I must say sometimes I feel like, stepping away from trying to always stay creative, helped me get back in the groove and unlock more creativity than before. However, staying active, socializing as best I can, and listening to other music, always helps, pandemic or not.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
Most likely my latest single NANA which releases June 4th, 2021!
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
Man…there are so many!
Tobi, Tory Lanez, Haviah Mighty, Savannah Re, Drake, DVSN, and so many more but yeah!
