In honour of Canada Day 2020, internationally acclaimed trio, ViVA Trio have assembled an incredible all-Canadian cast of talent to perform their rendition of “O Canada” virtually on June 25th and July 1st.
The multi-date performance will feature ViVA Trio’s sopranos Anna Bateman & Katya Tchoubar and mezzo-soprano Erin Fisher — a stunning set in their own right.
The trio is joined by multi-JUNO Award-nominee Gavin Hope (The Nylons), JUNO Award-winning and GRAMMY Award-nominated MET Opera regular and Officer of the Order of Canada Russell Braun, JUNO Award-nominated tenor Mark Masri, The North of Nashville Star winning singer and actor Graham Scott Fleming, and female vocalist and star of Stargate: Atlantis Rachel Luttrell.
Instrumentalists for the piece include pianist Mark Camilleri — who has shared the stage with Il Divo, Celine Dion, Sting, Andrea Bocelli, Paul Anka, Sarah McLachlan, David Foster, Sheryl Crow, Eric Clapton, to name a few — and internationally recognized violinist Vasil Popadiuk.
“This Canada Day will be one that we all remember forever, for numerous reasons,” ViVA Trio’s Erin Fisher says. “We hope our version of the anthem will lift people’s spirits, and overflow with Canadian pride.”
“We are connected to each of these wonderful performers, and hope that this anthem creates the feeling of community that we have within this group of artists,” Anna Bateman agrees.
“Regardless of the situation, we want to kick off this Canada Day with a bang!” Katya Tchoubar, who edited and produced the video and sound files as well, adds. “Incredible Canadian talents all coming together!”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
We are ViVA Trio, a Toronto based vocal trio. We have performed to audiences in Europe, the USA & Canada. Our debut album, “Nothing Else Matters,” features a live orchestra, a children’s choir, and original music. Our trio is made up of two sopranos, Anna and Katya, and a mezzo-soprano, Erin. Together, we’ve toured the USA, Canada, and Europe performing with orchestras worldwide. Most recently we wrapped our Canadian National Tour in February 2020.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
Our music has been described as cinematic with soaring vocals, spectacular high notes, and heroic crescendos. We each sing in numerous genres and enjoy blending and bending the rules of music to come up with our own unique sound. We also like an epic end to a song. This is something we would say we’re known for!
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
Due to COVID-19, our European Tour 2020 and many other appearances have been postponed; however, we are performing and hosting numerous concerts and events via Live Stream. When you come to a live ViVA Trio show, you can expect to hear what has been described as vocal fireworks, charismatic stage presence, and lush harmonies, all set to everything from the full orchestra, string quartet or band! There is never a dull moment, between our original material written, produced and arranged by us, to our covers of beloved pieces such as Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”. We also like to have fun in every show with our audience participation games where we invite people up on stage to “Name that Diva.” We also have a “DIVA OFF” competition judged by the audience. This is always hilarious!
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
We unanimously agree it would be our cover of Leonard Cohen’s beloved “Hallelujah”. Without fail, when we speak with people after our shows they all say it was a highlight for them!
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
Anna: “Sarah Mclachlan. She holds a very special musical piece of my heart. I listened to her non-stop as a teen and of course have continued ever since. She is as magical live as she is on her albums, if not more.”
Katya: “Celine Dion. I have always loved her vocals, music, and incredible stage presence. I love the fact that she is such a proud Canadian! I also love Alanis Morrisette! She’s so unique, creative, and expressive. Her music has always spoken to me!”
Erin: “Of course there are so many amazing Canadian artists!! Yes, I have to agree with Katya! I have been a huge Celine Dion fan since I was a little girl, and her new album, Courage, is stunning! I also really love Alessia Cara! She’s got a cool vibe and her songwriting is really inspiring!
