Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
We’re an Alternative-Rock band from Southwestern Ontario. The band is currently made up of Grant McLean (Vocals/Guitar), Zach Kostiuk (Drums) and Clara Gomes (Guitar). The three of us have been making music together for years and Melbourne was born out of an effort to put everything we got into our passion for creating music.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style
The three of us are all fans of ambiance and soundscapes so that has always been at the forefront of our writing style. Pairing Clara and Zach’s background in post-hardcore and pop-punk with Grant’s RnB style vocals gives us a very unique sound that we have really honed in on. We usually start with a very basic demo – sometimes acoustic snippets of a song and we bring all our ideas together to make it into a big production. Along with our classic ambient sound we try to make our choruses hit hard and sound really catchy in order to get the listener’s attention.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain
your live performance?
We’re currently working on getting some shows booked. We would hope that fans who see us live think of our performance as passionate, emotional and a well-produced show. We hope to bring a lot to our live performances and bring a level of production that far exceeds the listener’s expectations.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
We proudly recommend our debut single “Reasons”! It is a great example of our sound for the upcoming EP and showcases just what we have to bring to Canadian Rock. It is currently available on all streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube, etc.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
We love a wide variety of music so we are huge fans of anything from Drake, The Weeknd and Alessia Cara to Lights, Simple Plan, Seaway, and Alexisonfire.
