We’ve teamed up with Calgary-based pop-country artist, Megan Dawson to unveil her new single, “Kissed Me Like That”, which was produced by Dan Swinimer and written by Madeline Monro, Emma-Lee, and Lindsay Rimes.
The song brings hooky lyrics and an energetic melody embodying the feelings of happiness when falling in love. Mixed with the combination of Megan’s bright vocals, this song brings an exciting sound to the pop-country space.
“As we head into Spring and Summer, I wanted a song that represented and embodied that feeling of something so beautiful that you can’t explain it but it makes you feel so good and optimistic,” said Megan.
“I want my listeners to be able to find themselves within my songs,” Megan said. “To be able to be a part of the soundtrack of the current chapter in their lives no matter if it’s happy, sad or somewhere in between. I hope to inspire my listeners in the same way that my favorite artists inspire me.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Megan Dawson and I am a pop-country artist from Calgary, AB. I am also a songwriter and have been writing music for both my own projects and for others for the past six years. I have performed all throughout Alberta including being a performer at the Calgary International Airport greeting travelers as they come to the city and hosting a songwriter circle on the Music Mile. I love creating, recording and performing music and my goal is to release songs that can be the soundtrack for my audience and whatever chapter they are going through in their lives. To be the “best friend you didn’t know you needed,” so hey, let’s be friends!
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
“Kissed Me Like That” is an upbeat summer vibe type of song. It was written by Lindsay Rimes, Emma-Lee, and Madeline Merlo and was produced by Dan Swinimer (Jess Moskaluke, Tyler Joe Miller, Madeline Merlo). I am so grateful to be the voice on this song and to be able to bring to life the amazing melodies and story from the writers. With lyrics surrounding the excitement for a love unlike anything you have ever experienced before, this is the kind of song to roll down the windows to or jam out in your room. I couldn’t be more excited for it to be out in the world!
When it comes to the global pandemic, how are you keeping yourself out in the public eye while not being able to perform?
In the midst of such a crazy time in our world, I really wanted to use the time to be able to write, record, and ultimately release music that feels genuine, authentic and allows me to feel strong in my sound as an artist. With performing being so up in the air, I wanted to release music to continue to grow my relationship with my audience and connect with new listeners as well. With releasing my last two singles and releasing visual content, I am so grateful for the opportunities to continue to connect with music lovers everywhere as we move through a very tough time in the world.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so if you were able to work with ONE fellow Canadian artist, alive or dead, who would you choose?
I love this question. One fellow Canadian artist would definitely be Shania Twain. She has always inspired me and my vision for becoming an artist. I love that she is fearless in creating and performing music that can incorporate multiple music styles to create a unique and incomparable sound. I feel that she is not only an incredible artist but also a very strong person and I feel that working with her would provide an immense amount of knowledge and growth as I continue to pursue music. Also to be able to jam out with Shania would be the best experience ever!
What’s your goal for 2022?
My goal for 2022 is definitely to continue to release new music but also to perform the songs live. I can’t wait to share those in-person moments of jamming out to the songs with an audience and to be able to share in the energy and happiness that comes with live music. I am also so excited to keep growing on my artist journey and creating songs that are authentic to me and my goals.
