Quebec City-based songwriter David Lamothe co-founded A Fawn at Dawn in 2018, releasing two EPs. The band now consists of David, Derek Fortin, and Dimitri Fortin. The band has just unveiled their full-length album, We Should Catch up We Should.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hello, I’m David, singer, guitar player, songwriter. I co-founded A Fawn at Dawn in 2018.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
We Should Catch Up We Should is our first full-length album. The songwriting began in 2019. Then we took some time off to work on other projects and came back to it during the pandemic. Although it’s not a conceptual album, most of the songs touch on day-to-day relationships. And most of the songs were built on the same musical structure, with long outros.
When it comes to the global pandemic, how are you keeping yourself out in the public eye while not being able to perform?
A fawn at dawn is mostly a studio project. So the pandemic didn’t change much for us, but it did push us to finish the album.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so if you were able to work with ONE fellow Canadian artist, alive or dead, who would you choose?
I’ve been listening to a lot to the latest Dears album “Lovers Rock” recently, so I’ll say The Dears! For me, they are the perfect combination of pop and indie rock. It was one of my reference albums for mixing.
What’s your goal for 2022?
Although we’re about to release an album and we’ll work on other projects and hope they all do well, my goal for 2022 is to live in the present, enjoy every aspect of the journey, in my musical projects and in my personal life.
