Montreal, QC-based producer FRASE has unveiled a music video for his latest release, “Fanny Pack” featuring Lexodus. The single drops in advance of his upcoming EP, We’ve Got Time, set to release on June 17, 2021.
With his textured voice reminiscent of Mac Miller’s or Sampha’s R&B, and his Funk, Nu-Disco, and House productions, FRASE has been rocking jazz festivals (Kaslo Jazz, FIJM) and EDM raves (Bass Coast, Shambala). As a multi-instrumentalist, the producer can also play guitar, keyboard, and bass while mixing his productions.
The video for “Fanny Pack” recalls the spirit of club culture in the 1990s.
“We hand-picked 7 Montreal-based street dancers who embody that feeling in their movement and style. Because of covid regulations, instead of putting everyone together in a big cypher, we shot each dancer one by one giving them their own spotlight and chance to shine,” says FRASE.

Hi Canadian Beats readers! My name is Fraser aka Frase. I am a singer/songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist from Montreal. I am a dad to an almost 2 year old girl named River and I love making people dance and smile.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
My sound is a mix of funk, soul, house, and a little bit of indie-folk. Most of my songs start on an acoustic guitar or piano and then get put in the washer with electronic production. I love writing catchy hooks and phrases and putting them throughout the song, not just in the chorus.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
I wish! It doesn’t seem like many shows are happening in Canada this summer but hopefully by the fall. With my show, I aim to blur the lines of live music performance. Original songs, mashups, and VIP remixes are delivered in a dynamic, upbeat show where I sing, play guitar, or keys and bass all while DJ’ing my productions making loops, and dancing my ass off. Amplifying the liveness of my show and making things move is my wife Embody MVMT. She is a trained contemporary dancer with a decade of experience in street dances: B-Girling, Popping, and House. We perform some choreography together and also have guest dancers. Think Justin Timberlake, meets Jamiroquai and FKJ.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
Ouu that’s always such a hard one, but “Too Hot, Too Cold” is the best representation of my sound I think. Or anything in my top 5 on Spotify.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
I love The Kount, He is a funk/hip-hop/jazz producer from Toronto that also makes superb drum samples that I use a lot in my productions.
I have always really enjoyed Caribou’s left-field house styles, My wife bought me tickets to see his show in Montreal for my birthday last year but then covid happened instead but I would love to see them live one day.
