Five Questions With Todd Richard

Hamilton-born, BC-raised artist, Todd Richard has unveiled his new single, “Green and Blue”, which was inspired by the 7 pm clanging of pots and pans in recognition for frontline workers.

Todd shares,

“It really hit me how tough it must be for healthcare & care providers, and I wanted to write the biggest thank you and tribute into this song!”

Hello “Frands” My name is Todd Richard –last name pronounced (Rishard) just like Maurice the “Rocket” Richard.  About 12 years ago I created the word “Frand” and the definition is, that if you’re a fan, you are a friend, and if you are a friend, you’re a fan- therefore you are a FRAND!

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style

All three of my albums seem to have one thing in common, and I have been labeled by many fans as the “singer of true story songs”.  I do like to write fun party songs like my one song titled “King of Crown” but my real love is writing songs that can really reach and inspire the listener.

How have you been keeping creative during the Pandemic?

YES! Lots of songwriting and one very special song.  In April last year, while in lockdown it really hit me just how tough things must be for folks working in health care and on the frontlines, I wanted to do something more than just bang on pots & pans each night at 7 pm.

I reached out to a couple of song-writing pals and we wrote a song entitled ‘Green and Blue’ and although challenging, we went to work producing the single throughout the year of Covid.  Myself and my TR Band guitar man Chris Rolin started a weekly Facebook-Saturday Night Live Stream from my patio in Harrison Hot Springs. We have now done over 30+ shows and it’s honestly been good for ourselves and our “Frands”.  Each week we have folks tune in from all across the globe, they join for the music the laughs, and the Clinks”.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

Hmm, only one? …maybe Life’s about People, Live Your Life, Still Got Hope, or I would say probably the one would be my latest release “Green and Blue” written as a tribute and a thank you to folks working on the frontlines
