Review – Kiwi Jr.

Album: Cooler Returns
Release Date: January 22, 2021
Genre: Indie Rock

Cooler Returns is the latest release by Toronto-based artist Kiwi Jr. It is an amalgamation of memorable lyrics and hooks that only appear once but as soon as you hear them you are attached and want to immediately grab your telecaster to learn them. The album has a party vibe where you can put this on and everyone is enjoying it whether it’s a small get-together or a road trip.

Stand out tracks are the title track; it has a nice ‘The Strokes’ vibe reminiscent of 12:51 with the driving rhythm and features a guitar solo that would make anybody want to pick up a guitar in this modern era of music. This is a classic example of the indie rock genre jangly guitars, driving bass, and DIY recording techniques that are reminders of the bygone artists that have influenced the genre.

At the end of the day, this record describes the feelings that we have about what is in store for the beginning of what they call the terrible twenties so far it hasn’t been great but there is hope that everything will get better soon.
