Last week, JUNO-nominated Toronto artist STORRY launched the video for her latest single, “For No One”. The video was produced by Toronto-based multidisciplinary photographer and director, Karimah Issa, who was at the helm for STORRY’s cinematic visual for Money Ain’t Free. For No One is the first single from STORRY’s forthcoming EP, INTERLUDE-19, set for release this fall.
On the video, STORRY explains:
“All of the visuals were done in isolation during quarantine. The entire EP will be a visual album, in where all of the imagery was shot in just 3 days. We had a space for 10 days that was gifted to us by our friends Alison and James to record the audio and shoot the bulk of our project. It was just Karimah and I, trying to create ideas and imagery with no other crew, lighting, special cameras, wardrobe, make-up or budget. It’s fun working under restrictions. There are only so many rooms in a house, only so many camera movements you can achieve, only so much lighting options you have, or ideas you can devise that pertain to one person in one space. We knew we wanted FOR NO ONE to be sensual. But how could we do it without another person in front of the camera with me? Though most of my projects are more narrative-based with little lip-syncing action, we wanted this video to breathe and leave more space for the music. For lighting, we used the colours of the lips used on the single art cover, which are representative of the bisexual flag – red, purple and blue. Like a dream, STORRY is essentially fantasizing about this new lover in a big ol’ tub, lingerie, and lace. Simple, sexy, seductive. Sometimes there isn’t a need to overthink. Love is love.”
